This weekend I had the tremendous honor of being named as the 2015 recipient of the Margaret Marshall Dillon Scholarship, awarded at the 60th annual South Shore Arts Festival. What a night!
In addition to the award itself, I was given the chance to show a painting in the Winner's Circle. I selected "Shaggy," the painting of my dog MacGregor. For me, it's the piece that served as a real turning point for my work.
The occasion set me thinking about all I've done since picking up my first pastel, all I've accomplished. It was serendipitous to then see in my FB newsfeed sage wisdom from a friend about seeking change and betterment in one's life:
"We spend most of our lives waiting. Waiting to make more money so we can afford to be generous. Waiting for that big project to end so we'll be less stressed. Waiting to be invited, waiting for someone to show us how...Next time you notice yourself say or think "I want to," ask yourself what's stopping you and do something to make it happen. It doesn't have to be everything, just a step. Don't know how? Google it. Try at it, fail at it, learn from it...Don't let something that may never happen keep you from being and doing what you want and missing out on your best life right now."
Happy Father's Day!
